Service Above Self

Rotary to Dedicate New Peace Pole - Join Us on June 22nd!

The Upper Sandusky Rotary Club will host a dedication ceremony for a newly installed Rotary Peace Pole on Sunday, June 22nd at 2:00 PM at the Upper Sandusky Community Library. The public is warmly invited to attend this special event.

The Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument erected in various locations around the world as an

international symbol of peace. Each Peace Pole bears the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth"

on each of its four or more sides, usually in different languages. This Peace Pole will feature the

message in four languages: English, Spanish, German, and Wyandot.

During the dedication ceremony, the multilingual message of peace will be shared by several

distinguished guests. Wyandot Chief Billy Friend will read the Wyandot inscription. Upper

Sandusky Community Library Director Kathleen Whitt will read the message in German, and

Yajaira Ayala of Wyandot County Public Health and the founder of Upper Sandusky Hispanic

Involvement will read the Spanish message.

"It is a tremendous honor for the Upper Sandusky Rotary Club to sponsor this Peace Pole," said

Tom Masterson, President of the Upper Sandusky Rotary Club. "This monument serves as a

powerful visual reminder of our shared commitment to peace, both locally and globally. To have

these esteemed visitors join us for this dedication, acknowledging our rich history and heritage

makes this occasion even more meaningful."

The Rotary Club of Upper Sandusky has carried out it's motto of "Service Above Self" since 1943.

A collection of community-minded individuals, local Rotarians include those from many different occupations.  Our local Club averages 45-50 members.

Upper Sandusky Rotarians have the opportunity to not only support their local community through projects such as the Hometown Heroes Banners, but much larger efforts around the world.  We are proud to be confident of a future in which generation after generation of Rotarians will bring hope to those in need and peace to a world full of conflict.

Upper Sandusky Rotary History

The Upper Sandusky Rotary Club was chartered as a nonprofit on June 28th, 1943 and led by President, Paul Stephan; Vice President, J.D. Blackford; Secretary-Treasurer, Earl Ulrich and Sergeant-at-Arms, George Denman.  Plans laid by the Toledo Club and Findlay Club helpted to start a club in Upper Sandusky.  From planting 2,000 trees around the recently built Wyandot Memorial Hospital (trees in 1952, hospital in 1950), to providing air conditioning units to cool hospital rooms (1953) to current day projects of building playgrounds in the local parks and schools to working with other local service organizations to provide the very first Pavillion at the "new" Upper Sandusky Reservior.  There have been numerous local projects over the last 80 years.

Upper Sandusky is a part of Rotary District 6600
